More dependence on non-conventional energy inevitable-- Aryadan Mohammed

He was inaugurating the solar plants installed at Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII) and Rubber Training Institute (RTI) in a function held at RRII. The state needs 3500 MW electricity. But present production is only 2000 MW. So we depend on the Central allocation and also on private agencies for meeting the requirement. Cost of production of electricity is increasing and so we should look for alternative sources, he said.

Smt. Sheela Thomas, Chairman, Rubber Board who presided over the meeting said that the Rubber Board took the initiative for installing solar power plants because it is a source of green energy.

The solar plants installed in the Board have the capacity for producing 400 units of electricity daily. The plants were installed by Project & Equipment Corporation Ltd (PEC), a Delhi based public sector company. An amount of Rs.1.50 crore has been spent by the Board for the purpose. The Board expects that the solar plants will help it to attain self-sufficiency in electricity to a certain extent and the capital investment will be recovered within a period of ten years.

Sri. S. Moahanachandran Nair (Former Director, P&PD), Dr. Thomas. J (Rubber Production Commissioner), Sri.Viju Chacko (Director, Finance) and Sri. C.C. Chacko (Director, L&ED) spoke on the occasion. Dr. James Jacob (Director, RRII) welcomed the gathering and Dr. C. Kuruvilla Jacob (Director, RTI) proposed a vote of thanks.
