A Japanese tyre manufacturer, Yokohama Rubber Company, has announced intentions to increase its production of passenger vehicle tyres in India.
Yokohama India will spend around 671 crore rupees ($80 million) to increase its annual tyre manufacturing capacity in the Indian market. Having its presence in India since 2007, Yokohama India specializes in producing tyres that are tailored for Indian road conditions. The tyre manufacturer intends to add extra capacity to its current Indian factory in Visakhapatnam. The additional production line will concentrate on producing 22-inch passenger vehicle tyres and is anticipated to start operations in the fourth quarter of 2024.
The annual manufacturing capacity of Yokohama has increased significantly, rising from 700,000 tyres in 2014 to 1.53 million tyres in 2019 and 1.96 million tyres in 2021. Additionally, the business can already produce 2.8 million tyres annually at its factory located in Bahadurgarh, Haryana.
For the manufacture of off-road tyres, Yokohama maintains three production sites in Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu), Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), and Dahej (Gujarat).
The tyre manufacturer recently opened its 51st shop in Salem, increasing its retail footprint in Tamil Nadu. This location provides a complete showroom for the whole Yokohama product line, which includes SUVs and passenger vehicle tyres. Wheel alignment and wheel balancing are among the other tyre-related services provided by the brand's YIN dealership locations.
