IRSG Secretary-General discussed EUDR's impact on the Global Rubber Industry at VRA Annual Seminar 2024

The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), adopted in 2023, marks a significant step forward in global efforts to combat deforestation. This landmark regulation aims to ensure that products sold in the EU do not contribute to deforestation and forest degradation. However, the EUDR has far reaching implications for various industries, including the global rubber industry.

To address the challenges and opportunities presented by the EUDR, IRSG Secretary General Joseph Adelegan was invited to speak at the Vietnam Rubber Association (VRA) Annual Seminar held on December 12, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The seminar brought together industry experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss the impact of the EUDR on the rubber industry. Professor Joseph Adelegan highlighted specific challenges faced by the rubber industry in complying with the EUDR. He also discussed opportunities presented by the EUDR and the need for increased transparency, traceability, and sustainability practices throughout the natural rubber value chain.

By participating in such events, the IRSG continues to play a vital role in promoting sustainable and responsible practices in the global rubber industry. We are committed to supporting our members in navigating the complexities of the EUDR and other regulatory challenges.
